Why Install a Home EV Charger?
Charging your electric vehicle at home is up to 75% cheaper than using public charging stations. A dedicated home charger — known as a wallbox — charges your car 3–4 times faster than a standard 3-pin plug, and it does so safely, with proper circuit protection and load management.
A 7kW home charger will fully charge most electric vehicles overnight. You wake up every morning with a full battery, without ever needing to visit a public charger for daily driving. For longer ranges or commercial vehicles, we also install 22kW three-phase chargers.
We supply and install all major EV charger brands, including Easee, Ohme, Zappi, Andersen, and Pod Point. Each installation includes a dedicated circuit from the consumer unit, proper earthing and protection, and full testing and certification.
We install EV chargers across Cobham, Weybridge, Esher, Oxshott, and the wider Surrey area. Whether you're fitting a charger in a driveway, garage, or underground car park, we handle the complete installation from survey to certification.

The Risks of Incorrect EV Charger Installation
An EV charger draws significant power — typically 7kW for a home unit. This is equivalent to running two electric showers simultaneously. Incorrect installation creates serious risks:
- Overloaded circuits and house wiring not rated for sustained high-current draw
- Fire risk from inadequate cable sizing, poor connections, or missing circuit protection
- Electric shock hazard from improper earthing arrangements
- Charging a 3-pin plug overnight draws 2.3kW through a socket not designed for continuous use — a common cause of overheating and fire
- Non-compliant installations void your car warranty and home insurance
- Failed installations that can't be registered with your energy provider or used with smart tariffs
Our EV Charger Installation Process
Site Survey
We visit your property to assess the electrical supply capacity, determine the optimal charger location, and plan the cable route from the consumer unit. We check whether your supply can handle the additional load or if an upgrade is needed.
Charger Selection
Based on your vehicle, driving habits, and preferences, we recommend the best charger for your needs. We discuss smart features, load management, solar integration, and any specific requirements.
Installation Day
We install the dedicated circuit from the consumer unit, run the cable to the charger location, mount the charger unit, and make all connections. The installation typically takes 3–5 hours depending on cable run length.
Testing & Commissioning
The entire installation is tested to BS 7671 standards. The charger is commissioned, connected to WiFi if applicable, and we test a charge cycle with your vehicle to confirm everything works correctly.
Handover & Certification
You receive full training on using the charger, including app setup for smart chargers. We provide an Electrical Installation Certificate and register the installation. All paperwork is completed for your records.
Benefits of a Professional EV Charger Installation
75% Cheaper Than Public Charging
Home charging on an off-peak tariff costs as little as 5–7p per kWh compared to 40–80p at public chargers. The installation pays for itself within months.
Full Charge Overnight
A 7kW charger fully charges most EVs in 5–8 hours. Plug in when you get home, wake up with a full battery every morning.
Increased Property Value
A pre-installed EV charger adds value and appeal to your property, particularly in areas like Cobham and Surrey where EV adoption is high.
Smart Charging Features
Modern chargers schedule charging for off-peak hours automatically, integrate with solar panels, and provide detailed energy usage data via smartphone apps.
Safe, Compliant Installation
Dedicated circuit with correct cable sizing, proper earthing, and circuit protection. No risk of overheating, fire, or tripping other circuits.
Full Certification
Every installation is tested, certified, and registered. Essential for insurance, warranty compliance, and future property transactions.
EV Charger Technical Specifications and Installation Requirements
A standard home EV charger (wallbox) operates at 7kW using a single-phase 230V supply. This requires a dedicated 32A circuit from the consumer unit, wired with 6mm² or 10mm² twin and earth cable depending on the cable run length. The circuit must be protected by a 32A Type B MCB and a 30mA RCD (or a combined RCBO).
For properties with three-phase supply (common in larger Surrey homes and commercial premises), 22kW chargers are available. These provide significantly faster charging — typically 2–3 hours for a full charge — and are ideal for commercial fleet vehicles, multi-car households, or high-mileage drivers.
Load management is an important consideration for many domestic properties. If the electrical supply is limited (common with 60A or 80A main fuses), a dynamic load management system can be fitted. This monitors the overall demand on the supply and adjusts the charger's output to prevent overloading. Some chargers (like Zappi and Easee) have this built in.
Charger placement depends on several factors: proximity to the consumer unit (shorter cable runs reduce cost), accessibility from the parking position, exposure to weather, and aesthetic preferences. Wall-mounted units are most common, but pedestal-mounted options are available for detached garages or properties without suitable walls adjacent to the parking area.
All EV charger installations in the UK must comply with BS 7671 (the IET Wiring Regulations), and specifically with the guidance in IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation (4th Edition). This covers cable sizing, earthing arrangements, protective device selection, and specific requirements for outdoor installations.
For properties in Cobham and Surrey, we frequently work with listed buildings, conservation areas, and properties with long driveways where cable runs are extended. We plan each installation to minimise visual impact while maintaining full compliance and safety. Underground cable runs, concealed trunking, and colour-matched mounting brackets are all available.
We provide ev charger installation services across Cobham, Weybridge, Esher, Oxshott, Walton-on-Thames, Dorking, Godalming, Guildford, and the wider Surrey area. Read our customer reviews or view examples of our work.
